Relief & Response Programme

CDS responded to flood in Pattamundai Block of Kendrapada district of Odisha with financial support from FADV. The response project with specific target to children, pregnant and lactating women and other vulnerable groups has been completed in five villages of the area on 15th December 2014. The response project has intervened in three result areas such as – Livelihood, food security and nutrition, Water sanitation and hygiene, Sports and recreational activities for children. Assessment of malnutrition has been conducted by nutrition consultant. The children were provided Zincovit (multivitamin) and de-warming syrup. Awareness generation was made among target groups and stakeholders during the program. Target children under five years of age, lactating and pregnant women were also provided with nutrition supplement (Chattua) for about a month. To improve the access of vulnerable groups to nutritional foods, they were provided with seeds and seedlings. Cash for work are conducted in all response villages for development of village link roads under the project. Apart from the above WASH awareness programme were also organized in all 5 affected project villages to change the attitude and practices of the community. Besides that general health checkup cum free medicine distribution camps were organized in 6 villages in collaboration with local PHC and free medicines were distributed to the flood affected people. Sports materials for cricket match were distributed to the children of all 5 villages and a tournament was also organized among them along with prize distribution to the winner and runners-up.
